The Latest Electronic Gadgets to Look Forward to in 2011
Cool Latest Electronic Gadgets For 2011
As a new year begins, these days, people never fail to wonder about what electronic wonders they might be treated to in the coming year. All of the major tech companies have important releases under their sleeves this year - and we will see a couple trickle out every month. Of course, none of the latest electronic gadgets released in any year are actually new - wizardry such as this usually comes with a long gestation period. Whether it is a smartphone that has unheard of features or a laptop that does 3-D - as much as we associate these with being up-to-the-minute, the technology that goes into them has been in the works in the labs for years. Let's look at some of the latest electronic gadgets that will make it out of the manufacturers' labs this year.
Smart-phone:
- Let's start with a smartphone like you've never seen before - the Sony PSP Phone. First there were the Blackberry like smartphones that came with a full keyboard under the screen; when people started going for large touchscreens, device makers thought that they would appreciate having a keyboard that lived under the screen and that stayed hidden for the most part. Where do you go from here? How about a phone that has a slide-out screen under the main screen, a slide out keyboard under the Main screen and also a secondary slide out with a few controls? That's what the four segmented PSP Phone books like. And it's likely to make you feel like you just stepped out of a Terminator movie holding it. It's a gaming device, a phone and lots more. There isn't enough information about it out yet, but it's sure to run on Android 3.0 on a 1 GHz processor, and apparently, Sony is going to be producing an aftermarket for the product just the way Apple has one in the iTunes store for its iPhone.
Xperia Play (PSP Phone): Hands On Look
Newest Electronic Gadgets For 2011
The Xperia Play - A Sony Ericsson Cell Phone that Tries to Reinvent the Game
When in 2007 Steve Jobs presented the first iPhone at the Apple conference, the introduction speech included a word about how Apple had reinvented the phone. People at the time thought that it was typical marketing bombast. No one realized at the time how literally true it was. Fast forward to four years later, and just about every smart phone on the market looks exactly like the iPhone - a slab of black featureless glass. How is any phone company supposed to set itself apart in a market like this where all everyone wants is a large touchscreen, and every phone has no choice but to make use of more or less the same processors, operating systems and memory? Apple, of course, has the iPod built into its phone.
- What is a Sony Ericsson cell phone to do? Build a Walkman into its phones? That's already been done to no great advantage to the company. -
At the Mobile World Congress, phone makers like Sony Ericsson and HTC, hoping to set themselves apart with smartphone designs that do new things, have 3-D, social networking and gaming as their areas of focus. Sony has a name in gaming like no other phone maker out there. They are to gaming what Apple is to music. In the latest high-profile Sony Ericsson cell phone release they have, Sony's gaming heritage comes through - in the form of the exciting new concept of the Xperia Play Android smartphone. There's a lot about this phone that makes it look like one of those PlayStation portable gaming devices. Looked at face on, it looks like any other slab-of-glass smartphone. Slide the panel below the display out, you see that it's a traditional gaming controller pad. It's meant to bring gaming to smart phones in a way that mere touchscreens could never handle adequately.
The Xperia Play Sony Ericsson cell phone will certainly have its task cut out for it. Apparently, there are plenty of other manufacturers that are really tired of having to play the iPhone's game of turning out glass-tablet smart phones. The new LG smartphone for instance, has an autostereoscopic screen - it lets you watch 3-D without glasses. INQ, the British maker of smartphones, is making Android-based phones that are all about Facebook and nothing else.
The smartphone segment is all but four years old. And already, more people get on the Internet through their smartphones than they do through a computer. It's a very stressful time for makers of phones. It's back to the drawing board for everyone.
Sony Ericsson is one of the top choice for latest electronic gadgets you can check out.
Nintendo 3DS Review
Nintendo 3DS
The year 2011 of latest electric gadget is going to be all about living your entertainment in three dimensions.
First, there is the spectacular Nintendo of 3DS handheld gaming device that's as packed with technology as you would expect in a product that just landed here from the future. To begin with, it's the first mass-market device ever to offer you 3-D without glasses. How do they hope to achieve this? The device has three cameras. And one of them tracks the position of your head to try to aim the 3-D images right at you. And then it comes with algorithms that help it communicate automatically with other 3DS devices around; it has accelerometers, gyroscopes, - everything you would probably need for electronic warfare. The fact that it costs only $100 more than a regular Nintendo DS makes it all the more an advance.
The New Nintendo DS - Now with Glasses-Free 3D
The new Nintendo DS, the 3DS, actually, is going to be a game changer. Most people expected that the handheld gaming device would be priced out of most casual gamers' budgets - somewhere above $350. Thankfully, this exciting little pocket gaming device is actually going to sell for less than $250. Come to think of it, the Sony PSP Go cost just that much when it first came on the market. But feature for feature, it was quite inferior to the PSP 3000 (which oddly enough was cheaper). There is no funny business like that with the new Nintendo DS. The gaming device is a true leap forward from the old $150 DSi - in just about every way you can imagine - it puts out 3-D without glasses, it has wireless auto communications systems, and it's the very definition of high-tech with gyroscopes and accelerometers.
It's More Than a 3D:
The great thing about the 3DS is the way it is able to become so much more than that sum of its parts. While it does have exciting technology in the form of a gyroscope, an accelerometer, widescreen 3-D, a second touchscreen and communications systems that allow it to automatically sense when there are other 3DS devices nearby and even a 3-D video camera, you do wonder what will come of having all these in one little handheld device. You couldn't really tell until you really begin to play with one; but as of now, you do wonder if the new Nintendo DS is just a handheld videogame device anymore.
What can you do with this little 8 ounce hunk of high-tech? It basically has features that can practically give your lifestyle an automatic upgrade. Are you in a place where you don't have your Wii handy, but you still want your workout? There is a workout app that comes preinstalled on the new 3DS. Not only does it turn the device into a pedometer, it even gives you credit for how much you move around the house. The device doesn't even have to be turned on for it to scan around and find other 3DS devices nearby. It just keeps looking on its own anyway. The 3-D camera is a particular treat. You can focus it on anything around you; the 3DS will capture the object and then let you transform it into something fun.
But more important than anything else, the new Nintendo DS gives you 3-D without making you look like Woody Allen - no glasses. If you think about it, the future has to belong to devices that let you do whatever they offer you without any props. That's why the iPhone seems so much better than any one of those touchscreen phones that require that you to use a stylus. As simple as a stylus is, it's just not as natural as using your finger. And if that's the way we feel about a simple pointer to hold, what on earth would we think about a handheld gaming device that makes us wear bulky glasses? The winning feature in the 3DS is that it does its tricks without props. You don't have to squint or anything - it just works. And therein lies the genius of it.
Nintendo 3DS is one of the cool latest electronic gadgets you can hands on.
Window 8
And finally, here is a product that each one of us absolutely will buy when it starts shipping. The beta version will be out later this year for free though - it's Windows 8. It boasts a simpler interface than Windows 7, better digital media support, quicker startup and phenomenal integration between your smart phone and your computer. Whatever you decide to do about the other products in this round up, about the latest electronic gadgets due out this year, Windows 8 surely will be on your list of things to try out.
