What’s the deal with free shipping?

Well hello, it’s FREE! Shipping is usually the dark hidden secret behind online shopping, besides potentially being ripped off. You might get all excited over an incredible steal, but then you proceed to checkout, see the shipping charges and realize that you might as well have bought it at the store for the same price, given what shipping is going to cost. Convenience almost always comes at a price. So it’s not too surprising that shoppers get excited when their orders get shipped to them for free. It’s essentially convenience free of charge. What could be better than that?

Free Shipping For Real?

Few things in life, that’s for sure. But is free shipping really free? You’re not pulling our legs, are you? Well, no…and maybe. The thing is, yes, you really can get things shipped to you for free. For all orders over $25, Amazon will ship you your order for free, that’s a promise. But again, you have to get your order to balance out to at least $25. So if your order comes out to $24.99, you’re really out of luck. For people whose orders regularly exceed that amount, free shipping is just a regular perk. For others who only order small, the $25 limit can be a source of irritation. They might find themselves forced to order other things in addition that they don’t really need just to qualify for that free shipping…only to find that they’ve just spent way more money than they would have if they’d stuck to their original order and taken the shipping charge without protest. But to be fair, free shipping can really be a great deal sometimes. If you’re just under the $25 free shipping requirement, you won’t qualify and you’ll have to pay shipping, which will definitely propel your purchase above $25. But if you order one more moderately priced item, you can make the $25 limit and qualify for free shipping, which makes your order cheaper than it would have been

So it really all comes down to how much you’re spending per order and how much each individual item you’re ordering costs. If you’re smart about your orders, you can potentially pay less, save more and get more in return when you qualify for free shipping. Or, you can always provide your own free shipping by driving down to the store, picking up the goods and delivering them back to your own house. It’s a free country anyways....
